Between the climate and the environment there is a new catastrophe, animals on the verge of extinction, and animal scientists say: "This crisis is the most important threat."

There is a class of scientists who prove that it is possible to prevent the extinction of these animals, and it is possible to enhance the activities of protecting nature, environment, climate and desertification, that is, creating new protected areas.

The number of mammals, birds, reptiles and fish on the planet has decreased by 68% over the past 50 years. According to a report issued by the Global Wildlife Monitor, the group of freshwater animals in rivers and lakes is the most suffering, as their number decreased by 84% compared to 1970.

The report also revealed that the strongest decline in the number of animals was recorded in the continent of South America, and there is a decrease in the number of more than 90%, according to what "Boris Solovyov", the main project coordinator for the Biodiversity Conservation Program of the World Watch for Nature in Russia, said.

Solovyov said: “If we talk about certain species that are now facing the specter of extinction, there is the California porpoise, an animal like a small dolphin, that lives off the coast of Mexico.” The expert confirmed that there are only 15-18 animals left from the same individual.

He also added that there are only two northern rhinos alive so far, and both are unable to reproduce for various reasons.

The male died last year, and the genetic material from it has been preserved. As for the mountain gorilla, it is also threatened with extinction, as about 50 individuals remain.

The report considers that the main reason for the decline in the number of rare animals is the destruction of the environment and the climate and the significant damage caused by the construction of infrastructure and the subsequent fragmentation of land necessary for the life of the animals.

Another reason is the mistreatment of animals, hunting and fishing on a large scale, which causes severe damage to nature, and this affects overfishing, and the third and most important reason is environmental pollution.

A new and very dangerous reason for the decline in animal numbers lies in climate change, and this threat is new. "We cannot fully assess the extent of this threat, but it is said to be one of the most significant," Solovyov said.
