Stock market |

Stock market

“Ali” entered the stock market on the advice of a friend of his, or a post he read on social media that the market is in recovery and rising.

that it should catch up with the stock market in its current upward wave; So that he can invest his money to grow instead of keeping it at its value without an increase in light of his resort to passive saving.

"Ali" searched for his best options in the stock market, and turned to what he considers experts from his personal acquaintances, close associates, or "influencers" on social media pages.

Based on his estimates, he decides to buy a number of shares in a particular company, in which the share price is 100 riyals, and after a month, the price has reached 120 riyals.

dreams of quick profit

Ali is thrilled, that investing in stocks is easy and simple and requires little more than a quick tip from a friend or a social media analyst.

However, the stock price begins to gradually decline, and "Ali" refuses to sell the stock, even if it has retreated from 100 riyals and lost all its gains, and the index has turned into the loss box, "a bet" on the market's transformation and reversal.

stock experts

A study by "Stanford University" indicates that more than 80% of traders hold shares more than they should or sell them early.

In the case of holding, this indicates the dealer’s “hope” that the falling share price will rebound upwards, and this “hope” is often not supported by market or company facts and therefore is not achieved.

Also, many people enter the market in times of rising, hoping to achieve dreams of getting rich quickly or what is known as “passive income”, while the percentage of those who start trading in times of market rise is about 92% in the market.

A lot of people act like 'Ali' and 'shocked' by the fact that markets often fall after rising and so many reasons are related to the nature of the market itself.

Or the nature of the trader, and the trader has to pay attention to all those factors that affect the market and often make the loss follow the gain.

market correction

Perhaps the first reason related to the stock market is the reversal of gains into losses, which is what is known as the “corrective bounces” of the market, even in the event that the market is rising.

Where many speculators tend to put a “satisfactory” percentage of the profits that they achieve from the stock, for example 10%, to sell it afterwards, regardless of the actual stock future evaluations.

In light of the market's rise, the trend of sellers, in light of the emergence of some peaks, appears as if it were a single current that leads to the market's decline, and this led to the emergence of 24 corrective markets in the American stock market since 1974, in which the market declined by noticeable proportions following its sharp rise.

Define corrective market

The corrective market is defined as the one in which the market declines by 10% or more, but does not exceed 20% in its decline, otherwise it will turn into a bear market.

Of the 24 corrective markets only 3 turned into a bear market, and there are of course more than 3 bear markets during that period but it did not start out as a corrective market but for other reasons.

Charles Schwab Trading Company considers correction markets (including bullish ones) to be the most difficult test for all speculators as they have to make the decision to buy, sell or hold in a market that goes against its direction, making the calculations of ups and downs more complicated than in a rising or falling market.

The importance of the accounts increases in the shadow of the bear market as well, although it is shorter (446 days on average in the US market) than the bull market (2069 days on average), but it is witnessing more radical and sharp changes in prices, which forces traders to respond quickly to avoid losses.

Large dealers often describe the corrective market as healthy to avoid significant inflation in stock prices, which subsequently leads to the “crash” of the market and its decline in record proportions from which it will be difficult for the market to recover. Therefore, a small drop every short period is better than a big drop, even if it occurs every period big.

change of plans

As for the influence of the dealer himself and not the markets, many follow a principle that many consider valid for team games (such as football) which is “Do not change a winning team”, meaning that if a particular formula for trading achieves gains for the dealer, he does not have to interfere with it or change it for fear of spoiling it and diverting the gain. to lose.

But this principle is not suitable for the world of financial markets, because they are constantly changing, and here the prominent investor “Warren Buffett” warns that success may be the worst advisor because often the trader attributes the rise of stocks to one or two components and not to a complete reading of the market and the shares he trades on.

individual behavior

This is consistent with what has been confirmed by psychological studies that about 70% of people are not inclined to change their first impressions in general in life.

This is reflected in the stock market that the person's first experience with a particular stock (or an analyst or a trading company) makes him continue with it or withdraw from it without real foundations, which makes him vulnerable to loss after gain if his choices are not based on correct foundations.

In this context, a study by the Pew Center for Studies reveals that only 30% of people are ready to accept the "new reality" without falling into a real shock, which makes the majority continue the path they have taken far from its suitability to the changes around it.

And that this minority (30%) does not accept reality constantly, meaning that someone may absorb a social reality and not an economic reality and vice versa, which makes the realistic percentage willing to change its positions on each issue much less than 30%.

The study also indicates that investors and traders in the stock exchange are keen to collect information and follow up data in an unorganized manner.

Until more than 70% of them lose the ability to distinguish between “relevant” and “not important”, “non-vital” and “limited” information, so collecting information here is a curse rather than a blessing because it does not support the “guideline” of making a correct decision.

Feeling and Trading

Studies also reveal that 24% of investors realize that some information may not They are just as important, but they seek it anyway, to create an element of "distraction" that prevents them from making their decisions correctly and without "feeling" that they "might have missed something".

Which makes their decisions a little late or even makes them make the right decisions at the right time but with severe mental and nervous exhaustion.

Studies also indicate that only 6% of investors know very well what information they need to make their investment decision and seek it and not bother looking beyond it to make them make better decisions in the market, as well as enjoy a greater degree of mental peace.

Buying and selling with feeling

Many people buy and sell like Ali does, that is, according to what they "feel" and "hear" without ever working themselves in either technical or fundamental analysis.

This is in addition to the unfamiliarity of many of those who perform the types of analysis on the basis of each of them, and that percentage reaches more than a third of dealers in the market, according to some studies.

Turning gains into losses seems logical, since most people enter the stock market for the first time to take advantage of its rise, and they benefit from it through advice from others.

By analyzing the markets in a scientific way and buying (or even from others who imitated the “pioneers” and followed their movements in the market) and with the change of facts, the “pioneers” change their position from holding the shares to selling so that “Ali” would stick to his lost stock.
