وسط إجراءات أمنية مشددة في البلاد يقوم البرلمان السريلانكي بالإجتماع لبدء عملية انتخاب رئيس جديد للبلاد بعد حالة من الثورة في البلاد وإقتحام قصر الحكم.

حيث نشرت قوات الأمن السريلانكية أكثر من 100 عسكري مسلح ببنادق هجومية على الطريق المؤدي للبرلمان كما تم وضع الحواجز ومدافع المياه تحسبا لأي اضطرابات من قبل الشعب.

حيث وافق البرلمان السريلانكي يوم الجمعة الماضي على استقالة الرئيس السابق راجاباكسا بعد فراره إلى دولة سنغافورة هربا من المتظاهرين الذين اقتحموا مقر إقامته الرسمي ومكاتبه.

ويبدو أن البرلمان السريلانكي سوف ينتخب رئيس جديد للبلاد في غضون أسبوع هذا ويدير البلاد الآن رئيس الوزراء رانيل ويكرمسينغه كرئيس نائب إلى حين انتخاب رئيس جديد.

والحزب الحاكم في سريلانكا اختار مسينغه كمرشح للرئاسة كما يخوض سباق الرئاسة مرشح المعارضة ساجيثبريماداسا بالإضافة للنائب بالحزب الحاكم دولاس ألاهابيروما.

وأزمة سريلانكا بدأت قبل عدة أشهر بعد ما تصاعدت الاحتجاجات من قبل الشعب نتيجة إلى الأزمة الإقتصادية والإنهيار الإقتصادي للدولة.

والتي يبلغ تعداد سكانها نحو 22 مليون نسمة حيث تقلصت احتياطات النقد الأجنبي لتقترب من الصفر وبلغ معدل التضخم الكلي نحو 54.6 % الشهر الماضي.

Amid strict security measures in the country, the Sri Lankan Parliament is meeting to start the process of electing a new president after a state of revolution in the country and the storming of the palace of government.

The Sri Lankan security forces have deployed more than 100 soldiers armed with assault rifles on the road leading to Parliament, and water cannons and barriers have been set up in anticipation of any disturbances by the people.

Last Friday, Sri Lanka's parliament approved the resignation of former President Rajapaksa after he fled to Singapore to escape protesters who stormed his official residence and offices.

It appears that the Sri Lankan parliament will elect a new president within this week and the country is now running Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe as Vice President until a new president is elected.

Sri Lanka's ruling party has chosen Messing as its presidential candidate, and opposition candidate Sajithpremadasa is running for the presidency, in addition to ruling party MP Dulas Alhapiroma.

And the Sri Lanka crisis began several months ago after protests escalated by the people as a result of the economic crisis and the economic collapse of the state.

Which has a population of about 22 million people, where foreign exchange reserves have shrunk to close to zero, and the overall inflation rate reached 54.6% last month.
