عثمان بن عفان هو ثالث الخلفاء الراشدين، وأحد العشرة المبشرين بالجنة، ومن السابقين الأوائل بالدخول في الإسلام, يكنى ذا النورين لأنه تزوج اثنتين من بنات النبي محمد، حيث تزوج من رقية ثم بعد وفاتها تزوج من أم كلثوم.

كان عثمان بن عفان أول مهاجر إلى أرض الحبشة لحفظ الإسلام ثم تبعه سائر المهاجرين إلى أرض الحبشة, ثم هاجر الهجرة الثانية إلى المدينة المنورة.

وكان النبي محمد يثق به ويحبه ويكرمه لحيائه وأخلاقه وحسن عشرته وما كان يبذله من المال لنصرة المسلمين والذين آمنوا بالله، وبشّره بالجنة كما بشر أبوبكر الصديق وعمر بن الخطاب وبيقة العشرة وأخبره بأنه سوف يموت شهيداً.

النسب والولادة

هو عثمان بن عفان بن أبي العاص بن أمية بن عبد شمس القرشي الأموي، أميرُ المؤمنين ثالث الخلفاء الراشدين، وأحد المبشرين بالجنة، ويجتمع نسبه مع النبي محمد في عبد مناف، وقد ولد في مدينة الطائف بعد عام الفيل بست سنوات.

الكنية واللقب

كُنّي عثمان بن عفان في الجاهلية قبل الإسلام بأبي عمرو، ثم حينما أنجبت زوجته رقية طفلاً؛ كُنّي بأبي عبد الله، وسُمّي بـ "ذي النورين"؛ لأنه تزوج من إثنتين بنات النبي محمد رقية وأم كلثوم.

دخوله الإسلام

كان عثمان بن عفان من أوائل الذين اعتنقوا الإسلام قبل بدء المسلمين بالاجتماع في دار الأرقم، وقد دعاه أبو بكرالصديق إلى الإسلام، فذهب به إلى النبي محمد واعتنق الإسلام بعد لقائه للنبي محمد، وكان عمره حينما أسلم 34 عاما.

الصفات والأخلاق

كان عثمان بن عفان جميل الوجه، حسن المظهر، ولم يكن بالرجل الطويل ولا بالقصير، فكان بين ذلك، وكان ضخماً قويّ البنية، طويل اليدين، كثيف الشعر على اليدين، وطويل اللحية.

وكان عثمان بن عفان شديد الحياء، كريم وسمح النفس، محبوبا في قريش قبل الإسلام وبعد دخوله الإسلام للإسلام، وكان عابداً لله، زاهداً في دنياه وكريما.

أعماله

عثمان بن عفان له الكثير من الأعمال التي قام بها في سبيل الله ورسوله، منها: أول من هاجر إلى الحبشة مع زوجته, وتجهيز جيش العسرة في غزوة تبوك, وقام في توسيع المسجد النبوي, شراء بئر روما، وجعلها وقف للمسلمين.

غزوات الخليفة عثمان

شارك عثمان بن عفان جميع الغزوات التي شهدها النبي محمد، باستثناء غزوة بدر؛ وذلك لأن النبي محمد أمره بالبقاء مع ابنته رقية والتي كانت مريضة، فبقي معها.

أما الغزوات التي شارك فيها: غزوة أحد, وغزوة غطفان (ذي إمر), وغزوة ذات الرقاع, وغزوة تبوك؛ وقام بتجهيز جيش العسرة.

تولي الخلافة

تولى عثمان بن عفان الخلافة بعد وفاة الخليفة عمر بن الخطاب بعد 3 أيام، فكان الناس يجتمعون مع الصحابي عبد الرحمن بن عوف يتشاورون الناس بالخلافة، وكان جميع الصحابة مجمعين على تولي عثمان بن عفان الخلافة.

وتمت المبايعة على الخلافة في السنة الرابعة والعشرين من الهجرة، وكان تولّيه للخلافة مع إجماع أغلب الصحابة وبهذا يصبح ثالث الخلفاء الراشدين في الخلافة الإسلامية.

وإستمر في خلافة المسلمين اثني عشرة سنة، وكانت خلافته مليئة بالكثير من الإنجازات منها: الاعتناء بالقرآن الكريم الجمع والنسخ والتوزيع، وإرسال نسخ منها إلى أغلب الأقاليم الإسلامية.

الإعتناء بالمساجد

قام بتوسعة المسجد الحرام في مكة والمسجد النبوي في المدينة, وقام بإنشاء أول أسطول بحري للمسلمين في عهده, وفتح العديد من البلدان والمناطق منها: أرمينيا، وقبرص، وطرابلس، وأجزاء من إفريقيا ومنها الجزائر والمغرب حاليا.

وفاته

قتل عثمان بن عفان على يد جماعة مارقة أتت من مصر والشام والعراق، حيث اقتحموا منزله في المدينة، وقتلوه وهو صائم والمصحف بين يديه.

ومات شهيدا عثمان بن عفان حسب رؤية النبي محمد بأنه سوف يستشهد, في السنة الخامسة والثلاثين من الهجرة، ودفن في البقيع مقابر المسلمين في المدينة.

Othman bin Affan, the third of the Rightly-Guided Caliphs, and one of the ten missionaries of Paradise, and one of the first to convert to Islam.

Was nicknamed Dhul-Nourin because he married two of the daughters of the Prophet Muhammad, where he married Ruqayyah and then after her death he married Umm Kulthum.

Othman bin Affan was the first emigrant to the land of Abyssinia to preserve Islam, then all the other immigrants followed him to the land of Abyssinia, then the second emigration to Medina.

The Prophet Muhammad trusted him, loved him, and honored him for his modesty, morals, good behavior, and the money he used to support Muslims and those who believed in God.

He gave him the glad tidings of Paradise as Abu Bakr al-Siddiq, Umar ibn al-Khattab, and Bayqa al-Ashra, and told him that he would die a martyr.

Descent and Birth

He is Othman bin Affan bin Abi Al-Aas bin Umayyah bin Abd Shams Al-Qurashi the Umayyad, the Commander of the Faithful, the third of the Rightly-Guided Caliphs, and one of the missionaries of Paradise.

His lineage meets the Prophet Muhammad in Abd Manaf. He was born in the city of Taif six years after the year of the elephant.

Nickname and surname

Uthman bin Affan was called Abu Amr in the pre-Islamic period of ignorance, then when his wife Ruqayya gave birth to a child; I was called Abu Abdullah, and he was called Dhul-Nourin. Because he married two daughters of the Prophet Muhammad, Ruqayya and Umm Kulthum.

His entry to Islam

Othman bin Affan was one of the first converts to Islam before Muslims began meeting in Dar Al-Arqam. Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq invited him to Islam.

So he took him to the Prophet Muhammad and embraced Islam after meeting the Prophet Muhammad, and he was 34 years old when he embraced Islam.

Attributes and morals

Othman bin Affan was a beautiful face, good-looking, and he was neither tall nor short, and he was in between.

Othman bin Affan was very modest, generous and generous, loved by the Quraysh before Islam and after his conversion to Islam, and he was a worshiper of God, ascetic in this world and generous.

His works

Othman bin Affan has many works that he did in the way of God and His Messenger, including: the first to emigrate to Abyssinia with his wife.

And the preparation of the Army of Al-Usrah in the Battle of Tabuk, and he expanded the Prophet’s Mosque, bought the well of Rome, and made it a waqf for Muslims.

The conquests of Caliph Othman

Othman bin Affan participated in all the invasions witnessed by the Prophet Muhammad, with the exception of the Battle of Badr; This is because the Prophet Muhammad ordered him to stay with his daughter Ruqayyah, who was sick, so he stayed with her.

As for the battles in which he participated: the Battle of Uhud, the Battle of Ghatafan (Dhi Emer), the Battle of Dhat Ar-Raqqa, and the Battle of Tabuk; And he equipped the Al-Usra Army.

Take over the caliphate

Othman bin Affan assumed the caliphate after the death of the Caliph Omar Ibn Al-Khattab after 3 days.

The pledge of allegiance to the caliphate took place in the twenty-fourth year of the Hijrah, and his assumption of the caliphate was with the unanimity of most of the companions, and thus he became the third rightly-guided caliph in the Islamic caliphate.

He continued in the caliphate of Muslims for twelve years, and his caliphate was filled with many achievements, including: taking care of the Holy Qur’an, collecting, copying and distributing, and sending copies of it to most Islamic regions.

Taking care of mosques

He expanded the Grand Mosque in Mecca and the Prophet's Mosque in Medina, and established the first naval fleet for Muslims during his reign, and opened many countries and regions, including: Armenia, Cyprus, Tripoli, and parts of Africa, including Algeria and Morocco now.

His death

Othman bin Affan was killed by a rogue group that came from Egypt, the Levant and Iraq, where they stormed his house in Medina, and killed him while he was fasting with the Qur’an in his hands.

And he died as a martyr, Uthman bin Affan, according to the Prophet Muhammad’s vision that he would be martyred, in the thirty-fifth year of the Hijrah, and he was buried in Al-Baqi’, the Muslim cemetery in Medina.
