Solomon's Temple
Painting of Solomon's Temple

Solomon's Temple is a Jewish temple. It is believed that since the time of the Prophet Solomon, according to the Christian name or "Hammaqdash House" according to the Jewish name, it was a Jewish temple built in the tenth century BC and destroyed in the year 70 AD.

According to Christian and Jewish heritage, historians and archaeologists believe that the temple is in the same location as the Al-Aqsa Mosque currently in Jerusalem, Palestine.

History of Solomon's Temple

According to what was mentioned in the Holy Bible, the Prophet Solomon, peace be upon him, built it to complete the work of his father David, peace be upon him, by order of God, and he placed the Ark of the Covenant and the Law of Moses, peace be upon him, in it.

The temple remained standing until King Nebuchadnezzar came and demolished the temple in 586 BC and took the Jews as slaves to Babylon, and after about 70 years, with the occupation of the Persians to the Babylon region.

And as Cyrus the King of the Persians returned the Jewish captives to Palestine and reconstructed the Temple, until King Herod came, who completed the building in a different way.

And was named after him the Temple of Herodotus, which is the Second Temple, and the second temple was destroyed by the commander of the Roman army Titus in the year 70 AD.

History of Islam

After the Islamic conquest, the Third Temple, or what is called the Al-Aqsa Mosque, was built for Muslims in the Umayyad era, the Umayyad Caliph Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan, which is not accepted by the Jews.

And some Christian sects do not believe that Islam is a religion revealed by God according to the Islamic belief, which came to complement other religions according to the Islamic and Christian beliefs. Al-Aqsa Mosque has remained the same until now.

The establishment of Israel

After the establishment of the so-called State of Israel, it is now relentlessly seeking to build the Temple of Solomon or the Third Temple on the Temple Mount (a Jewish term) or the Haram al-Sharif (an Islamic term).

It made several attempts aimed at demolishing Al-Aqsa Mosque and establishing the Third Temple in its place, and the dispute still exists between Muslims, Jews and others.

The story of Solomon's temple

The story of Solomon's Temple began in the Sinai region when the Lord asked Moses to make a box of wood, two and a half cubits long and one and a half cubits wide, inlaid with gold and precious stones, and put inside it the tablets written on which the law was written.

And the Lord commanded the Prophet Moses to build a room and put the ark in it, and it was called the Holy of Holies, and the children of the tribe of Levi would undertake the service of the ark, and whoever entered the room in which the ark was, would be killed except the high priest.

But after the death of the Prophet Moses, Joshua came, who did not take the warning, and took the ark and put it in front of the army, dragged by an eruption to occupy Jericho.

Since the time of Joshua, the ark has been used in the wars of the Children of Israel, where it is placed at the front of the army, which is a pagan custom, where idols are placed at the front of the army on the basis that they are fighting with them.

In the fourth year of his reign, the Prophet Solomon ordered the construction of a building for the ark, 63 meters long and 12 meters wide, and a minaret 18 meters long. Solomon called the building the Temple of the House.

Important history of the Jews

The most important date for the Jews is August 9, which is believed to be the day when the Temple of Solomon, the “first temple” was destroyed and destroyed by the Babylonians.

The Hebrew history also mentions the days of the Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar.

Definition of Solomon's Temple

It is the Temple of Solomon or the House of the First Temple or the Holy House, according to the Jewish name known as the House of Hamkadesh, according to the Bible.

It is the first Jewish temple in Jerusalem built by King Solomon, and it was destroyed by Nebuchadnezzar II after the siege of Jerusalem in 587 BC.

It is considered one of the holy places for the Jews and they believe that Christ will rebuild the House of Hamakdash, and he does not know exactly where the location of the House of Hamkadash is, and some Jews think that its location is the place of the Dome of the Rock or next to it.

Old Testament

Where it is mentioned in the Bible and the Old Testament, and an important place is given to the temple, where it is mentioned alone; Without evidence, that David was the one who had the idea of building a permanent temple for the Lord instead of the moving tent of testimony.

“Thus says the Lord: Will you build me a house for my sojourn? For I have not lived in a house since the day I brought the children of Israel up from Egypt to this day, but to you.

And the Lord promised David that the building would be during the reign of his son and heir, Solomon, “He will build me a house, and I will establish his throne for ever” - Chronicles of Old Days.

As for the location of the temple and its architecture, David appointed it before his death. “David said, “This is the house of the Lord God, and this is the altar of burnt offering to Israel.”

the Bible

The Gospel is from the Holy Bible, it dealt with a temple in a spiritual and symbolic framework, and it did not sanctify it like the Jews, because with the coming of Christ who came to our world it was fulfilled, rather it was spiritually perfected in the person of Jesus Christ.

According to Christian sources, these prophecies were fulfilled in his teachings, death, resurrection and ascension to heaven, and then were fulfilled in the teaching of the apostles of the early church (Paul and Peter) after the coming of the Holy Spirit, where the church became the new living temple of God, about rebuilding the new temple.

Islamic opinion

The Holy Sanctuary has a special sanctity for Muslims, as it is the first of the two qiblas and the second mosque placed on earth, and to it the Prophet Muhammad was taken captive before he ascended to heaven in the incident of Al-Isra and Al-Miraj, between the earth and the sky.

Muslims believe that there is no building called Solomon's Temple under Al-Aqsa Mosque, and that it is a story that the Jews wrote as an excuse for them to demolish Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem.
